What about a joint rethink of remittances to Africa by the diaspora?

Every year, the African diaspora sends billions of CFA francs, euros, and dollars back to the continent.  In 2023 alone, nearly $100 billion [1]. That’s more than all official development aid. More than all foreign direct investment. 

But these transfers are more than numbers. They represent deep connections, unwavering solidarity, and a powerful will to act, even from afar. They tell the story of those who, despite living abroad, continue to carry Africa in their hearts, their responsibilities… and their wallets. 

And yet, many questions remain : 

👉 What is the real impact of this money?  

👉 How satisfied are we with how it's being used?  

👉 Could we leverage it differently, to help truly develop the continent? 

What if we explored these questions together?

A large-scale survey on diaspora remittances to Africa, as a starting point for shared reflection and collective insight. 

Because we believe that: 

• The most powerful ideas come from those living the reality; 

• The answers already exist—in our minds, our stories, our experiences.  

That’s why we’ve created a questionnaire, open to all members of the African diaspora, wherever you are:in Africa, the Americas, Asia, the Caribbean, Europe, Oceania... 

This questionnaire is meant to:

This is not the end, it’s a beginning:  The beginning of a structured reflection,  The start of a shared vision, The birth of a community of action, …and perhaps, of new models of solidarity.
